Our mission is to manufacture meaningful educational, activity-based products that are safe and fun to learning institutions, recreational departments and youth organizations. History

Sawyer Sports Products, Inc. (SSP), formally Sawyer Industries, Inc., was founded April 7, 1989 by Jim and Diana Sawyer. The first product they developed was Crazy Legs® Stilts. After searching for a market and attending as exhibitors at the TOY FAIR in New York (toy market) in early 1989 and the SUPER SHOW (the sporting goods market) in Atlanta later that year, they discovered the learning institutions had a need for them. Very selective in their purchasing, Crazy Legs® Stilts gave them an alternative to traditional products used in physical education in which these educational markets require safe, durable and functional products to enhance their curriculum which they are mandated to follow.

In the past sixteen years, new products have been added to Sawyer's product line that follows required skills taught in PE classes- the three "C's: Coordination, Cooperation and Communication. While attending a physical education teachers' workshop and seeing substandard and unsafe techniques used by these teachers, two of SSP signature products were created to implement these skills - Buddy Walkers® and Team Walkers®. One teacher had tied ropes to landscape timbers and tried to have their students walk using them. The timbers being 4"x 4" made them easy to turn over which could injure the users. Buddy Walkers® and Team Walkers® are less that 1" off the ground and 5½" wide making them very difficult to turn over. Another product, Crazy Dancers®, a deluxe tinikling set (a popular dance activity originating in the Philippines), soon followed. Northside Independent School District, one of the State of Texas largest school districts, will begin to source Sawyer Crazy Dancers® as the standard for tinikling sets.

In February 2001, SSP acquired product lines of Activity Time, Inc., which included Success Beams™, Putt Putt & Store™ and many others. After redesigning some of the products to reduce shipping costs and make the products more durable as well as serviceable, SSP was able to re-establish a relationship with Activity Time, Inc. customers and vendors. In January 2003, Sawyer acquired the product line of GYM-I-NEE™, an outdoor playground game that utilizes a basketball pole, molded funnel and four-chute setup - game balls are shot much like basketball.
